Books

Reading is my favorite thing in the world! .........

But, not with a nook or a kindle... Not to say they aren't great! I have both. One was a gift from my sweet son, who loves his mommy. The other, my husband told me to pick out my own gift for Christmas. He said I would know exactly what I wanted... Smart man!

Trust me it was the best gift I ever got myself! God bless his little heart...

I have downloaded hundreds of books on both of my e-readers. I have read most of the books... Some were stupid downloads. Lucky me, I can read a book a day! Drives everyone else crazy... Did I say I LOVE to read?

Hanging out in bookstores is amazing and relaxing to me. Just walking in you're hit with the wonderful smell of new paper and ink. (inhales) Your mind registering a smell of fresh ground coffee... (exhales) The sound of faint hushed conversations off in the distance. Other people, just like me... Sitting with the books, chatting about the books, talking to the books... Something only a book lover would understand.

I smile every time I enter by myself or with my girls. Yes! They love it as much as I do. (tehe) Sharing a passion for reading and love of books with my kids, makes me so... Over the moon...

Something about the smell and weight of a book in your hand. Nothing in the world can ever replace it... The feel of the different textures as you flip through the pages. I can't wait to get my hands on a book, only to discover the type of paper used. (if it's textured or slick as snot...)

Every book is a new experience, a new wonder. And that's before even reading the words that are so perfectly printed on each page. Just waiting for my eyes to caress them. Again... Something only a book lover would understand.

The way the school is going nowadays, kids won't even know what a real book feels like... In another five to ten years they'll be extinct! What a shame... Books build imagination. They take you places only your mind can go. Kids need to dream and books help them by taking them to places. I still remember some of my childhood dreams... Reading Boxcar Children and The Apple Dumpling Gang.

My mimi (grandmother) gave me the gift of appreciation for books. I didn't know it at the time, but as I think back on my life with her... I can see it all very clear. She was always so very careful with her books and never let me touch them. For good reason, I dog-eared them...

My girls make me laugh because they don't like me touching their books. I think they are just like their great grandmother... And I love it. Now, if they start calling me "darling" with a southern drawl... I will just fall out laughing. Lord help me if that happens... (shaking my head at the thought)

My girls will never know what it's like to spend all day Saturday at the library writing book reports. Sitting at those tables, buried under a stack of books, just to write a three page report. Which, by the way, would be due on Monday. Using that darn library catalog system, where you had to know the Dewey Decimal System just to work it. (yes, I'm that old)

I miss school and those days. Although, at the time, I thought I was in the 7th circle of hell. It's the same kind of hell I would love for my daughters to endure... Yes! I know, I'm wonderful. You don't have to say it...

I think kids have it too darn easy anymore with google, bing, or whatever other search engines they use. Someday, computers are going to crap out on us and all we will be left with are our books... They may only be for heat, but we will have them!
