The box stores...
Not every mom in this world is crafty, us artistically challenged mom's are better off buying our children's costumes. By the way... Have you noticed the price of those things? How about the way they place them on the aisle?
I promise you, my ability to cut paper is sketchy at best, most days. You want me to color with you... I'm your woman. When I draw a stick figure people laugh at me. Yes, it's that bad. So making a Halloween costume is out of the question for me. I could always pay someone, but then it's not really cost-efficient. I have two girls...
Off to the big-box store's I go, searching and, oh my goodness.... Every store was the same! The costs were absolutely crazy! I don't know about you... But, my children only wear their costume for a couple hours, one night a year.
Once I bring them home and give them a bath the costume is useless. It's all over till next year, the costume's in the toy box. In my case, I normally have about 50 dollars worth of trash... The only reason I say that is because in about a weeks time it will be so torn up I will throw it away.
Some of you say resale them, that's a good idea, but in two hours my kids can somehow rip a hole in them. Every year. Never sure how or when, but it happens without fell...
Back to the box store, walking down the aisle I noticed something. All the most expensive costumes are hung low, right in the kids' eyesight... Makes sense to market to kids. Parent's will buy one just to shut them up.
Most of us don't even look at the price tag. I'm just as guilty as the next, when it comes to buying the kids what they want. With all the craziness going on in the world I truly thought about skipping Halloween all together this year, but I can't hide from life. Even if I would love to sometimes... It's just not fair to the kids.
These costume prices are getting out of control, though. They all look the same, too. Flipping through them I started to get a little feed up. Every kid in my town will be the same three things... I was about to give up and walk out. Not wanting to pay $20+ for a darn costume... When I looked up. There was a handful of small bags hanging on a hook. Guess what they were? Yes... Costumes!
They were only 5 dollars! I was so happy I picked up two different ones for my girls. Today, when school let out I got to surprise my silly girls and they were thrilled!
My lesson today was, even in a box store you can still find a good deal... Or something different, if you just keep looking.
